** Please note, bookings for this event close on Wednesday 11. October at 5pm.**
This urban mindfulness retreat offers an opportunity to set time aside to slow down as we shift into autumn, surfing the waves in times of change. As the days become shorter and cooler, it will help to create a nurturing space to reflect, rest and restore. We will embrace the subtlety of the changing season, inviting a sense of wonder as we connect with nature in an urban environment.
Over the course of the day, you will be gently guided through a range of nurturing practices, helping us to reconnect with what matters and be reminded of the inner sense of ease that can be experienced with greater presence.
About The Phoenix Garden
The Phoenix Garden is a small urban garden tucked away in a hidden corner of Covent Garden. Reclaimed by local residents and opened to the public in 1984, it’s the last of seven Covent Garden community gardens. The garden is affectionately tended to by a team of dedicated volunteers and is a registered charity.
The garden offers a rare green space in London’s thriving West End where visitors can take a moment to find peace amidst the hustle and bustle. Benefiting from the urban heat island effect due to its central London location, tropical plants thrive along with a range of urban wildlife.
The retreat will take place in the eco-friendly building attached to the garden, designed by architect Gurmeet Sian who won the RIBA award for architecture in 2021. The building was created to support the garden and its surrounding community, meaning the retreat will be helping to support their worthwhile work.
About The Retreat
During the day, you will have a chance to relax and settle into silence as you deepen your mindfulness practice away from everyday distractions. This retreat day will be held mostly in silence, with guided practice including mindful movement, walking meditation, sitting practice, and lying down.
Through cultivating the key attitudes of mindfulness, we will be reminded of how mindfulness can help us return to meet the challenges of everyday life with greater ease and awareness, and with more compassion.
The retreat is suitable for beginners and experienced meditators. Many find that attending a retreat helps reignited or support ongoing mindfulness practice.
