When stressed, we often seek refuge in relaxation exercises, namely, in breathing exercises. But stress management – with its implicit expectations of self-control - itself can cause stress. The ancient art of Anapanasati (which means simply mindfulness of breath as it is), is a stress-free approach to relaxation.

In this original masterclass by Pavel Somov, you will learn to differentiate between control-focused approaches to breath-work (such as Pranayama and diaphragmatic breathing) and control-free, acceptance-focused approaches to breath-work (that take “work” out of breath-work, while allowing a practitioner to use natural, spontaneous breath as a powerful focal point for mindfulness).”

This part-didactic and part-experiential masterclass will focus on:

  • Relaxation vs Meditation and how to cultivate mindfulness as effortless relaxation,
  • Potential mistakes of breath-work,
  • Control-focused breath work vs acceptance-focused awareness, and
  • Practices to take away beyond the masterclass
