There has been a renewed social awakening on the impact of racism and the monumental harm and suffering it is causing. This introductory workshop has been designed to support you in exploring and cultivating awareness and compassion as it relates to racial awareness.

Experiences of race are inextricably woven with our identities and life stories. This introductory workshop will offer a safe space to explore those experiences by using the tools and skills of mindfulness. Ruth King tells us that, ‘racism is a heart disease, and it’s curable’. Participants are invited to pause and notice what they are experiencing in their hearts and bodies as they consider and reflect upon race and racism.

The workshop will be experiential, including guided meditations and exercises, discussion, and theory. It will cover:

  • How to cultivate a sense of being with discomfort or unease as we lean into new knowledge and new experiences of race awareness;
  • Understanding whiteness and white privilege as conceptual and linked to systems of power we all inhabit;
  • Exploring the subject of embodied anti-racism and allyship; and
  • Mindfully exploring and engaging with grief and trauma of others and our own.

 This workshop will be followed up with regular monthly, drop-ins to practice mindfulness and share the journey of racial awareness with others.
