Many of us live increasingly hectic and distracted lives as we try to juggle both personal and professional priorities. In consequence, a growing number of us are left feeling disconnected; seeking new ways to bring mindfulness, ease and natural calm into our lives. Fortunately, there are many paths to follow.

The 5Rhythms is one of those paths, offering an alternative to more traditional mindfulness meditation and the opportunity to introduce some variety into our practice. It is a movement meditation practice that teaches the discipline of being present and dancing with life.

5Rhythms is commonly offered to groups and can provide both a deeper awareness of self and meaningful connection with others.

When dancing the 5Rhythms, we take a journey (known as a ‘Wave’) using a somatic map, leading to a place of deep stillness and presence. To participate for oneself, dancing alone at home with others is a simple, yet rewarding recipe. It’s easy, accessible and fun. From our earliest beginnings, dancing to music in community has been part of the human experience. This is the virtual, contemporary version.

In this two-hour online workshop, we’ll dance two 5Rhythms Waves and be introduced to some of the language and fundamental principles of 5Rhythms philosophy. Facilitated guidance is provided, helping us to bring our awareness and attention back to the body using breath and movement. Participants will also have the chance to listen and share their experiences with the group.


  • You do not need to ‘know how to dance’, all that’s required is an open mind and non-judgemental presence.
  • Due to the musical nature of this workshop, we highly recommend connecting your device to headphones, or amplified / Bluetooth speakers.
  • The practice is adaptable to accommodate everyone. Please contact us if you have specific concerns about your ability to participate.
  • For the comfort of the group, we ask that you keep your camera on. However, you are welcome to dance away from the screen if you do not wish to be visible.

You will need:

  • A PC, laptop, Macbook or tablet
  • A webcam and microphone
  • A stable internet connection
  • Comfortable clothing in which you can move freely
  • A private space where you can be undisturbed and can move around
  • Access to Zoom video conferencing - please note that there is no cost to download Zoom.
